Humanists want the church to step back from the political scene. They have accomplished this by parading their religion as neutral, balanced and rational. We have sat back and let them do so. We, our children and grandchildren are/will reap the devastating consequences. Liberty, justice and prosperity will disappear if we do not take action. Already we read "a Christian school in Werribee has been forced to defend its refusal to offer a training placement to a Muslim teaching student on the grounds of her religion."

The Australian political and religious climate is toxic. For some time the church in Australia has refused to adequately address the separation of religion and government. At best there has been a weak, mixed and unbiblical message. It is unheard of to hear a sermon on the issue. You are probably reading this and thinking "rightly so." But, let us stop and think about it. This issue is important.

Secular humanists have been afforded the luxury of hiding their religious presuppositions behind the facade of neutrality for too long. Humanism is a religion. It stands upon the foundational philosophy of autonomous man, who determines right from wrong by way of his own reason. It claims that all convictions must be "weighed and tested by each individual and not simply accepted on faith." Recognise with me, that this is a religious statement. It cannot be empirically proven. Can you really empirically prove that your every conviction must be empirically tested? No, convictions cannot be empirically proven in a lab test tube. It is circular reasoning, assuming that which is sought to be proven, to assert otherwise. Every person possesses a set of underlying presuppositions that cannot be empirically proven. Philosophically speaking, this set of assumptions is known as your first premises, or worldview. These presuppositions inform your everyday actions. Yes, including your political motivations and actions.

As the church in Australia we must stand up against the growing militant anti-Christian attacks. We must realise that no one can separate presuppositions from actions, whether in politics or eating or anything else ( 1 Cor. 10:31). The Australian Democrats make this statement: "we do not consider that religion should have undue influence on the governance of Australian citizens." They present us with the popular false dichotomy: religion should not be permitted to influence our political motives. How absurd. There is another choice in the matter. Henry Van Til once coined the phrase: "Culture is religion externalized." This includes the humanists. Their religious convictions come out of their finger tips. Any particular religion that takes hold of the majority in a nation is lived out more and more consistently by its adherents. History attests to this. As a particular political view point is held by the majority its implications become legislated.

Take a stand, understand that the Bible is not politically, ethically or socially impotent. It is the living Word of God and IT IS sharper than a two edged sword. It is the only rule for all of faith and all of life. Understand your responsibilities before God. You are not saved unto sin or societal neutrality. Do not buy the Satanic lie that anything is neutral. You must take "every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" ( 2 Cor. 10:5), doing all things to the glory of God ( 1 Cor. 10:31) by obeying the commands of the Lord ( Jn. 14:15). Christians have tried to fight all forms of rampant humanism, atheism and every other form of anti-Christ philosophy with nothing. There are no vacuums in beliefs. If we do not faithfully proclaim the crown rights of Jesus Christ to every area of life the rebellion of Satan will take its place.

Please consider the Anselm Shop for resources to equip you, your family and church in the fight to rebuild our culture according to the Word of God.

1. Sir
Excellant sentiments! Every politician has a religious view of life, but it is only Christians who are harrassed for expressing their beliefs openly.
