The architecture of our Christian heritage is crumbling. All around us we see the ungodly gathering together against the Lord and His anointed ( Psalm 2). Long standing laws and societal norms are constantly challenged. This is happening like never before in the western world. The very core of our society is being rocked. Are these signs that we are living just before Jesus' bodily return to judge the quick and the dead? I think not (see articles one, two, three and four). God works in history through covenants, all of which find their yes and Amen in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). At base level a covenant is an agreement/promise between two or more people/parties. The greater (sovereign) covenants (or makes promises) with the lesser. A new hierarchical order is established by the sovereign. This hierarchical structure is used, by the sovereign, to instil an ethical code. Children of the kingdom are to relate to the King through ethical obedience/faithfulness. Entry in the Kingdom is accomplished by the sovereign's grace. The sovereign also stipulates sanctions for obedience and disobedience. Rewards are offered for faithfulness and curses for unfaithfulness. Blessings are bestowed through the lesser's ethical obedience to the greater. Finally, the sovereign arranges continuity. Plans are made and issued for generational continuance of the covenant. Why? Our sovereign God seeks godly offspring ( Malachi 2:15).[1]

Ethical norms (and thus laws) are derived directly from society’s “god.” No two sovereigns can operate over one jurisdiction. One will replace the other. There can only be one source of authority. No man can serve two masters. All law seeks to define good and evil. Laws are a religious expression, which flows into the moral standards that govern a society. The society’s sovereign is the source of its laws. Hence, societal laws reflect the word and will of its sovereign. Australia is harvesting the fruit of a bygone era. Majority of efforts were placed on evangelism/missions and church planting. Crusades and alter calls abounded. Once people entered the Kingdom they were encouraged to evangelise. Discipleship was lacking. It still is. In the halls of many churches across the land you will witness a throb of people who are not ethically challenged with the Law of God. Rather, consciences are soothed with…”we are focused on growth” or “all that matters is that your heart is right” or “if your heart is in the right place she’ll be right.” We have failed to recognise that God is still an all consuming fire ( Hebrews 12:29), who demands obedience to His Law ( Luke 6:43-49, John 14:15). Grace cannot be understood without first realising we are ethically bankrupt and dead to sin. Our ethical standards matter to God; they externalise who our sovereign is ( Luke 6:43-49). Failure to faithfully carry out the Law of God brings covenantal judgment, beginning with the household of God ( 1 Peter 4:17). It has already begun in Australia. The Lord Jesus Christ is walking among His churches. He is removing candlesticks from unfaithful servants ( Revelation 1:12-20). We are reaping the harvest of what was sown one, two, three and four generations ago ( Exodus 20:4-6, 34:5-7).

Our Christian heritage is crumbling because the Australian church has covenantally forsaken her first love ( Revelation 2:4). She must repent and return to a full orbed faith, over all of life ( 1 Corinthians 10:31), in Christ. On the 20th August 2009 the Tasmanian House of Assembly passed The Relationships (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2009. This bill grants legal recognition to same sex parenting. Potentially, children could have two mums. Our Attorney-General, Lara Giddings, introduced this bill. It seeks to over rule the Status of Children Act 1974, which presupposes a child to have one father and one mother. This Act (1974) reflects God’s covenantal norm for marital ethics. We need to repent. The church must mourn. A new sovereign is rapidly replacing the old. Australia is departing the Law of God and turning to Secular Humanism. This “new” god of our age is seeking to remove the incumbent sovereign. Secular Humanism faithfully, consistently and systematically gives an anti-Biblical law. It produces ethical monsters of every shade. This should not surprise us. We are experiencing God’s covenantal cursing upon Australia. Why? The church in Australia has been unfaithful. Whereby? Through ignoring the ethical code of Christ’s Kingdom (i.e. the Law of God). Christians around the country have asserted neutrality in politics, law making and general lifestyle issues. This is a false notion. Faith governs every area of life. Christ requires our obedience in all aspects of society; individual, family, work, church, government etc.[2]

Judgement does not last forever. God always keeps a faithful remnant. Western nations are under demolition and reconstruction. The two-edged sword is cutting and restructuring the lives of Christians across our land. Faithful members of the Kingdom are seeking to return to the old paths. Revival, through fathers turning their heart to the Law of God and then to their children, will come. God will not be mocked. He is the true sovereign. All others will be shattered by Christ’s Gospel, the rod of iron ( Psalm 2:9, Daniel 2:44-45). We have been killed, by the Spirit, and resurrected/born again into the Kingdom of God. We are new/transformed men and have the Law of God written upon our minds and placed in our hearts ( Hebrews 8, 10). We have received the power to live holy, faithful and obedient lives to the glory of our High King. Salvation comes by the grace of God alone. Such grace opens the flood gates of hearty obedience to the Saviour’s Law ( John 14:15). No kingdom is ethically neutral. Nations are transformed by the Holy Spirit through simple faith…“just trust and obey, there is no other way.” Externalities flow out from our hearts ( Proverbs 4:23, Matthew 15:16-20).

What should you do?

1. Go into your closet, get on your knees and repent of your sins. Seek God’s forgiveness for the sins of your children ( Job 1:5), the sins of your church ( Revelation 2:4-5) and the sins of our governments ( 1 Timothy 2:1-4). Beseech the Lord to remember His covenant and have mercy.

2. Arise and walk in obedient faith, like the man of Psalm 1. Apply God’s Word/Law to all of your life ( 1 Corinthians 10:31).

3. Wash your wife in the Word of God ( Ephesians 5:25-33) and teach your children diligently ( Deuteronomy 6, Luke 1:17, Ephesians 6:4).

4. Encourage your pastor/minister to teach your congregation how to live as faithful Christians. Keep praying and encouraging your church leaders to show you, from the Bible, how to faithfully submit to God’s ethical standards ( John 14:15, 1 John 5:3-5).

5.
Send an email to Tasmanian politicians encouraging them to block the aforementioned Bill in the Upper House. The Australian Christian Lobby has created this website (LINK) to help with this.

:) Another great read, Trev. I was particularly interested in your "What should you do?" comments point 4 copied below:

4. Encourage your pastor/minister to teach your congregation how to live as faithful Christians. Keep praying and encouraging your church leaders to show you, from the Bible, how to faithfully submit to God’s ethical standards ( John 14:15, 1 John 5:3-5).

The problem here is that most of our pastors have been "indoctrinated" into relativistic humanist thinking habits. The job that lies ahead is to enlighten them into true Christian worldview thinking. Unfortunately, the liberal arts that they have adopted are based on the abandonment of God, truth and absolute law. In its place they have firmly entrenched man, and thus all things have become relative to him. The liberal arts are just what they say they are - "liberal" - in other words "free" of all Godly constraint. We need to educate according to Christian freedom - under God's dominion. However, is it too late for some of our esteemed church pastors out there, who seem "hell" bent (and I use the term purposefully!) on falling in line with some of the lay "unethical monsters" wihin their congregations? It just seems too easy for some to fall oh so comfortably into the morass of natural law as an easier option for God's law. We need to confront the neutrality that too often pervades the church by promoting belief in God and His law, because without belief we can have no understanding. It was St Anselm who stated: "...For I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand." ("Proslogium" 1935) Faith indeed governs all areas of life. Only with faith can Christians ever hope to advance God's kingdom in terms of His Word, His Calling, and His Law.
