The debate over creation and evolution has been around a long time. Charles Darwin simply systematised a naturalist philosophy in order to remove the necessity of the Creator of the heavens and earth. In general the church has not stood her ground on the truth in this matter. Many churches seek to synthesise some sort of evolutionary framework into their Christian philosophy. It doesn't work. Mixing dross into the weighty metal of God's Word softens the strength of the Gospel. If God did not create the heavens and the earth then He has no jurisdiction over them. And if God employed a slow evolution of one life form to the next then sin did not enter the world via one man. This weakens the case for the ultimate Man doing what the first man could not do. Many of the truths of the Bible are founded in Genesis. They mature through the revelation of Scripture but the foundation is laid in the first book of the Bible. If you throw out this part there are only a few tiny steps to trashing the whole. The Biblical account of Noah's Ark has received much criticism and scoffing. Nothing has changed in nearly 6,000 years of history. James Jordan comments on Noah's
witness:
Not only did Noah preach with his lips, he also engaged in a 120-year long project that was a visual witness against the ungodly: building the Ark. "By faith Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world" ( Heb. 17:11). Building the Ark was a sign that the flood was coming. As the wicked saw it being erected day by day, they say a visible proclamation of the truth of coming judgment. They may have ridiculed it. They may have torched the project over and over again - 120 years is a long time to build a ship unmolested. They may have harassed Noah in many ways, but their hearts told them that God is God and that He will not abide evil forever.
In this way Noah strove against wickedness as his fathers had...Noah labored in the hope of rest. As he toiled to build the Ark, so he toiled to warn men - year after year, and without any success except with his sons and their families. Yet, he believed God, and he believed the God-given prophecy concerning his name. God would give rest in due time - through the flood.
And so it cam to pass. The flood washed away the wicked world, and Noah rested in a new creation.
And so we are called to recognise the times we live in. We are to stand on the covenantal promises of God. The promise to continue discipling the nations through the means of His church. If we do not stand against wickedness by believing God's Word, we will not find the rest that Noah did.
This is an interesting DVD by Dr Tas Wlaker, concerning the rapid creation of rocks. It runs contrary to all evolutionary thinking:
